At the Wayne County Equine and Recreational Center, we are committed to the education of youth and adults on the beauty and benefits of equine partnerships. Opening the door to experience the close relationships that can develop with horses builds character and confidence. Learning to trust oneself, acquiring patience and new skills will improve the outlook for program participants.
We aim to inspire a culture of compassion and empathy towards horses.
We envision a society where youth have a variety of options and experiences in a safe environment.
We envision a society where all horses have a safe and nurturing haven, free from neglect, abuse, or homelessness.
Our vision extends beyond borders. We imagine a global community of horse advocates, working together to address the challenges faced by horses worldwide.
Plans for the Wayne County Recreational Center will focus primarily on horses, but it will include guest speakers on a variety of topics and include the opportunity for the children to try different activities, such as archery. It will also be an important location to introduce youth to different career options such as: Equine dentistry, Veterinary Science, Equine/Animal Nutritionist, Horse Trainer/Breeder, Equine Therapist, and others.
Encouraging peers and even adults to be brave, try something new and learn from us. This program will foster responsibility in our youth as they learn that the health and safety of these large animals is dependent on their actions and commitment. We have found that the youth grow in knowledge but the realization of how their actions impact others is the true reward.
We want to give children a new perspective, a place to listen, think and dream.
Equine therapy programs connect horses with community. We believe in equine therapy and want to ensure that additional locations are available in the community to support this transformative work.
Our mission is to improve our world by expanding the horizons of youth in our community with new skills, self-confidence, and a new vision of their world.
The mission of the Wayne County Equine and Recreational Center is to afford others the opportunity we had. Growing up we did not realize that other children did not ride horses, camp, travel and participate in a variety of activities that we took as a normal. Learning new skills, self-control and conquering fear are so crucial for our youth, but as we look around, we see them obsessed by social media. The Wayne County Equine and Recreational Center is stepping forward to offer our youth the experiences we had, to gain and grow in their mind and spirit through the understanding and love of horses.
We envision our youth stepping forward with confidence and meeting new challenges with assurance. Redirecting youth focus in a positive and clear direction creating opportunities and experiences they may have never had the chance to experience nor even realized existed. The equine world can be the doorway for our youth to see possibilities with a new vision of themselves and their world.
Our program is designed to build respect, skills, peer support, and dependability.
Respect for oneself, peers, leaders, and all life. Working with horses requires that the individual respect the animal, instructions, and time to keep themselves and the horses safe and healthy.
Skills are developed through education and opportunity. Education needs to be complemented with hands-on opportunity to build skills.
Peer support is an important key for youth. Youth learn quickly from each other. Working in groups with multiple horses and riders requires that everyone work together making and sharing goals and creating and following plans.
Dependability is required by all parties. Leaders and youth must make the commitment, follow through with plans of action and keep their word.
